Light years ahead
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) properties at Dubai Festival City is in the process of replacing all of their interior lighting with LED solutions. A total of 35,000 light points – in hotel rooms, suites and public areas – will be replaced with sustainable alternatives. This is phase two of a project that has already seen the InterContinental and Crowne Plaza hotels replace all of their exterior façade lighting with LED solutions.
Nurturing a healthy pastime
Outlets have opened in the Mall of the Emirates, The Dubai Mall, Dubai Festival City and the Oasis Centre. The website served as an interactive platform for the skating community to get information on Rage events, locals news and international happenings, including articles, images and videos. They also invested in building Dubai’s first skatepark in the Festival City and launched a skating school.
New Hard Rock Cafe to open in October
When the Hard Rock Cafe closed in Dubai last year, many considered it the end of an era. But the music-themed restaurant is to be reborn, with a 118-foot guitar towering over the front door. The 26,400 square foot restaurant is to open in October at the Festival Centre in Dubai Festival City.
21 new stores open in Dubai Festival City
Festival Centre, the award winning retail resort of Dubai Festival City, said it has opened twenty one new stores in the second quarter and continues to attract new brands to complement shopping season. Dubai Festival City is an Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate (AFGRE) development project which covers 5.2 million sq ft and stretches 3 kilometres along the historic Dubai Creek.
Elisabetta Gucci stopped over Dubai hotel name plan
Gucci, the luxury-goods company owned by PPR SA, said it won an injunction preventing unauthorised use of the Elisabetta Gucci name, thwarting plans by the great-granddaughter of the founder to open a chain of hotels under her moniker. Elisabetta Gucci plans to open an 87-suite hotel in Dubai by the end of the year, Ziller said last month. Branded as EG Hotels and Resorts by Elisabetta Gucci, the property would showcase furniture designed by her and built by Formitalia Srl, Ziller said.
Dubai World gets $9.5bn government backing
The Dubai government has announced it will provide $9.5bn (£6.4bn) in funding to help its Dubai World investment vehicle to restructure its debt.
